Governor Bong Lacson administrated the oaths of office of the Silay City Barangay OFW Association officers, held at Silay City Covered Court, yesterday.
The activity was attended by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region VI Director, Rizza Joy Moldes, Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego, Executive Assistant to the Governor, Marie June Castro, and other local officials.
OFW Negros Occ. Federation, Inc. (ONOFI) president, Salvacion Barrios, presented to Gov. Lacson the newly elected officers of the 14 OFW Barangay Associations for 2022 – 2025.
The governor lauded the Silay City Government led by Mayor Gallego for establishing an OFW Migrant Center Desk and for supporting the Barangay OFW Associations.
He also said he hopes the OFW association will be an active partner of the province in the fight against illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
“We shall not waiver in our efforts to boost the positive, and reduce the negative effects of labor migration, and to protect our fellow Negrenses who leave in the hope of finding a better future for their families in lands not their own,” he said.
