A flash flood hit northern Negros Occidental on New Year’s Day and thousands of families and their homes were affected as waters brought about by heavy rains and high tide inundated several barangays in the cities of Talisay, Silay, Victorias, and the municipality of E.B. Magalona.

Immediate assistance to approximately 4,625 families in Talisay, 1,849 families in Silay, 8,801 families in Victorias, and 1,415 families in EB Magalona, was extended by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), the Local Social Welfare and Development Officer (LSWDO) and the DSWD-SWAD.

These teams focused on the augmentation and distribution of essential relief items consisting of 30 boxes of bottled water, 55 sacks of rice, 32 boxes of sardines, and 95 sets of non-food items that included blankets, towels, plastic mats, tarpaulins, and calderos, as indicated in the partial report provided by the PSWDO.
