The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) led by Atty. Julie Ann Bedrio presented the 10-Year Provincial Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plan (2022-2032) to Governor Bong Lacson at the Governor’s Office on January 12, 2023.
The 10-Year SWM Plan was formulated by PEMO through the SWM Team led by Dr. Eriberto Madalag and members, Sheila Joan Bautista, Ria Dada, and Rodolfo Sapalo Jr. in collaboration with the 31 LGUs of the province, Provincial SWM Board (PSWMB), Provincial Capitol SWM –Task Group (PCSWM-TG) chaired by Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II, and all Kapitolyo Solid Waste Management Educators (KaSE).
The SWM Plan will serve as a baseline guide for the province and its 31 component LGUs for the implementation of the Provincial SWM activities.
The EMB-DENR Region VI led by Nidalyn Padernila-Agsaluna, together with EMB-DENR Provincial Environment Management Unit Negros Occidental officers namely, Josephine Maguad and Engr. Victor Thomas Ureta also provided technical assistance to PEMO.
The initiative is also part of the preparation phase for final deliberation with the National SWM Commission. The Province of Negros Occidental is hopeful for the approval and successful implementation of the plan to sustain SWM for the next 10 years.
Gov. Lacson lauded PEMO’S initiative on the SWM 10-year plan and expressed his full support for its implementation.
