Governor Bong Lacson led provincial officials in today’s celebration of the 126th Cinco de Noviembre at rites held at Capitol Park and Lagoon.
Local officials, Capitol employees, national government agencies, and non-government organizations attended the activity.
The Teatro Bukal of Murcia National High School presented a historical play about the Negros revolution and independence.
The outstanding taxpayers, individual and corporate categories, were also awarded plaques of recognition and certificates, assisted by Board Member Valentino Miguel Alonso, chairman of the SP Committee on History, Culture, and Arts.
Gov. Lacson said that more than the famed bluff that liberated and defined Negros, Cinco de Noviembre is the province’s unique narrative of heroism.
“The heroes of Cinco de Noviembre rose to meet the challenges of their time, and it is our responsibility to do the same today. As a community, we must keep alive these acts of nobility and honor to guide, inspire, and instill values that are worth upholding and emulating,” he said.
The governor said that this year’s Awarding honors the outstanding corporate and individual taxpayers, whose contributions are crucial to the province’s shared growth.
“Over the years, we have honored Outstanding Negrenses in various fields, celebrating individuals for their dedication and excellence. Now, as we move forward despite the challenges of our times, the need for resources to sustain our progress is essential — hence, the importance of taxation,” he added.
He stressed that heroism is often associated with extraordinary acts, yet our understanding of heroism must also evolve, that there is also honor in the honest and steadfast fulfillment of one’s responsibilities — especially in an age when such dedication is sometimes overlooked.
According to the governor, tax collection is the lifeblood of government, and the efficient, uninterrupted collection of taxes is crucial.
“Rest assured, your contributions are managed judiciously and prudently, and devoted to benefiting our people and our province to the fullest,” he added.*
