Members of the Kapitolyo Solid Waste Management Educators (KaSE) participated in an educational tour held at Subay Marketing in the Municipality of E.B. Magalona and BioFlyt AgriVentures Corp. in Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City, last week.
The participants acquired firsthand knowledge and valuable insights into the plastic recycling process and its significance, emphasizing the environmental benefits of recycling, such as reducing landfill waste and conserving energy.
Lemar Ledesma, Manager of Subay Marketing, shared the transformative journey of the company’s plastic recycling operations in Negros Occidental, provided an in-depth explanation of the recycling process, and showcased the diverse range of products manufactured from recycled plastic waste.
The participants also visited Brgy. Mambulac in Silay City, where Punong Barangay Hazel Cordero showcased their innovative products crafted from recyclable materials. Recognized by EMB-DENR VI in 2022, Brgy. Mambulac stands out as one of the barangays with exemplary practices and innovations in solid waste management.
Engr. Aldwin G. Torquido, CEO and President of BioFlyt AgriVentures Corp. guided the KaSE participants through the company’s innovative process for managing organic waste. BioFlyt, the first biowaste management company in Bacolod City, utilizes Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae to efficiently process biodegradable and organic waste efficiently, showcasing a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to waste management.
The activity was facilitated by PMD Head, Dr. Eriberto Madalag, PMD-SWM Unit leader Sheila Joan Bautista, and PMD-SWM Unit members Ria Dada and Rodolfo Sapalo.
Engr. Victor Thomas Ureta, Vinci Raymundo, and Sheelamite Labrador of EMB-DENR also joined the educational trip.
