An emergency meeting on Animal Biosecurity and Current Hog Disease Situation in the Province was held at Negros Residences in Bacolod City on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Governor Bong Lacson met with Negros Occidental mayors and other local officials to discuss updates about the threat of highly contagious diseases among pigs, particularly African Swine Fever (ASF) and Hog Cholera.

The meeting also tackled the implementation of biosecurity measures and inter-LGU movement regulation of animals in order to protect the P6-billion swine industry of the province.

Negros Occidental is also among the top exporters of pork products in the country.

Also present at the meeting were Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, Negros Occ. Provincial Police Office Director, Colonel Leo Pamittan, 303rd Brigade Commander, General Orlando Edralin, and Provincial Veterinary Office OIC, Dr. Placeda Lemana who discussed Disease Control Strategy, among others.
