It is a Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Project aimed at increasing the market value of agricultural and fishery products.
The project costs Php153,516,648.30 with an 80-10-10 counterparting scheme from the World Bank, National Government and the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, respectively.
More than 12,000 farmers and fisherfolks, and about 2,787 households are expected to benefit from the project.
Gov. Lacson said that the project will have more economic benefits and will increase the market value of agricultural and fishery products that pass through the feeder port, and help in the transportation of agricultural goods and other commodities from Sagay City to the neighboring islands.
“When agriculture and fisheries are developed and enhanced, plus the fact that as an archipelago we have a rich marine life and aquatic resources, we begin to have not just food security, but also food accessibility for every Filipino,” he said.
He lauded the local officials and all stakeholders for the realization of the project, and thanked the PRDP for its consistent support to the province.
The governor also encouraged the Sagaynon farmers and fisherfolks to continue the practice of responsible farming and fishing practices.
Present in the activity were Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon, III and Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr., Engr. Albert Barrogo, DA VI RTD for Operations, Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU) Head, Dr. Narissa Lemoncito, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist OIC Dr. Dina Genzola, and Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa, among others.
