Governor Bong Lacson visited the Municipality of Hinigaran on September 29, 2020 and checked on the completed cycle of the Sugarcane-Rice Intercropping System Project at Hda. Bagacay, Brgy. Aranda, which is the pioneer host of the project.
The said agricultural project is a collaborative endeavor of the Negros Occidental Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) that was launched in June this year, aimed at helping Negrense farmers to be more productive and earn extra income.
The palay seeds were planted in the block farm of Hacienda Bagacay Workers CARPer Beneficiaries Association and are now ready for harvest after three months.
Gov. Lacson thanked the farmers for their cooperation that contributed to the successful result of the program.
He also said that it will be replicated in other towns and cities in the province because it is one way of ensuring food security amidst the pandemic that has been affecting the province.
Also present were SRA Board Member Dino Yulo and Mayor Nadie Arceo of Hinigaran.
Provincial Agriculturist Atty. Japhet Masculino said that it is also part of maximizing the province’s 190,000 hectares of land devoted to monocrop sugarcane farming.
