Governor Bong Lacson led the distribution of financial assistance worth P5,000 each to 13 displaced OFWs from the towns of Valladolid and Murcia, in a program held at the Capitol grounds this morning.
The beneficiaries were part of the 100 displaced Negrense OFWs who are recipients of the Gender Responsive Intervention to COVID-19 and New Normal Project, funded through the Provincial Gender and Development (GAD) Budget.
GAD Provincial Action Officer, Marie June Castro, said that OFWs from the Municipality of E.B. Magalona, and the cities of Victorias and Talisay have already received the same assistance, while beneficiaries from San Carlos City and Calatrava are scheduled for next week’s distribution.
A total of 100 displaced OFWs were beneficiaries of the program for the year 2020, and another batch of 100 OFWs will also receive the same financial assistance for this year.The Provincial Government is also giving assistance to the families of Negrense OFWs who died due to COVID-19 infection abroad.
Gov. Lacson said that the Provincial Government is always concerned and supportive of Negrense OFWs and their families.
He also urged everyone to be open to vaccination against COVID-19 once the vaccines become available.
Also present in the activity were former OFW and vice chair of the Provincial Committee on Migration and Development (PCMD), Sally Barrios; Ana Lim of the Provincial Planning and Development Office, and Engr. Jojo Amugod, Jennifer Melliza, and April Duran of the Special Projects and Concerns Division, among others.
