The winners of the 2020 Search for Best Barangay VAW Desks in the province were recognized at the Provincial Capitol yesterday, as part of the culminating activity of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW (Violence Against Women).
The winners in the Municipal Category were Brgy. Poblacion, Cauayan; Brgy. 2 – Poblacion, Isabela; and Brgy. Culipapa, Hinoba-an.Meanwhile, the winners in the City Category are Brgy, Aguisan, Himamaylan City; Brgy. Napoles, Bago City; and Brgy. 9, Kabankalan City.
Governor Bong Lacson was represented by Executive Assistant to the Governor, Charina Magallanes – Tan.
In his message, Gov. Lacson thanked the Provincial Council for Women for doing its best to safeguard the rights of Negrense women. He lauded all participants and winners and said that they have shown the Negrense women the vigilance of the PCW in ensuring their protection, safety and well-being, and the accessibility and availability of an avenue where their concerns can be addressed.
According to Gov. Lacson, the activity is proof that the provincial government is serious in its undertaking to address and eliminate all forms of violence against women, and it will help diminish the sense of helplessness that has afflicted the victims of gender-based violence; it will also give them added courage to stand up and hold their ground because they know that help is within reach.
The event was organized by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, Provincial Council for Women, Provincial Committee Against Trafficking, Child Pornography and VAWC.
Also present in the activity were PCW Chair, Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si and PCW Adviser, Marie June Castro, among others.
