The Provincial Council for Women in collaboration with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) led the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) in a program held at the Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City, this morning.
This annual campaign seeks to raise awareness about violence against women and children, advocating for the protection of their rights, as well as providing information about the laws and resources available to safeguard them from abuse and promote their well-being.
In his message, Gov. Bong Lacson said that the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting women and their families.
“We will continue to effectively utilize our Gender and Development budget and other resources to improve the lives of women and reach out to the younger generation, who are the future of our province,” he said.
The governor called on both men and women to unite in creating a brighter future for the victims and survivors of VAW.
“This year, we aim to amplify our efforts by engaging more men in this advocacy. Their involvement as allies, protectors, and advocates is crucial in fostering a culture of respect and equality,” he added.
The assessment and action plan related to the implementation of RA 9262, An Act Defining Violence Against Women and their Children, Providing for Protective Measures for Victims, and Prescribing Penalties, were also discussed at the activity.
The officers of the Provincial Federation of Barangay VAW Desk Officers also took their oaths of office before Gov. Lacson, as part of the day’s event.
Present in the activity were Board Member Rita Gatuslao, Executive Assistant to the Governor and Provincial Gender and Development (GAD) Action Officer, Marie June Castro, Provincial Council for Women Chair, Andrea Lizares-Si, and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Head, Chiqui Gonzales, among others.*
