Governor Bong Lacson led the turnover of 30 units of 20-footer Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) boats and 132 sets of boat repair materials to the identified fisherfolk beneficiaries from various LGUs in the province.

The beneficiaries are from the cities of Sipalay, Victorias, Talisay, Bacolod and San Carlos, and the towns of Binalbagan, E.B. Magalona, Hinoba-an, Cauayan, Hinigaran, and Ilog.

The assistance is part of the Rehabilitation and Recovery Program of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region VI whose beneficiaries are victims of the recent typhoons that affected the fisherfolks and caused damage to their livelihood.

The ceremonial turnover was held at the Panaad Park in Bacolod City, yesterday (Feb. 22), in the presence of Marian Jill Abeto of BFAR – Negros Occ. and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist staff.

The FRP boats are complete with engines and other accessories while the boat repair materials include marine plywood, copper nails, marine epoxy, and marine paints.

Gov. Lacson thanked the fisherfolk sector for their contribution to food security in the province, and urged them to prioritize their safety, especially when there are typhoon announcements.
