BEST BARANGAY VAW DESKS IN THE PROVINCE AWARDED
Governor Bong Lacson together with Board Member Rita Gatuslao led the awarding of the Best Barangay VAW Desks and VAW Officers in Negros Occidental, as one of the highlights of the culmination of the 18-day Campaign to End VAW (Violence Against Women), today.
The activity was held at Brgy. Zone 2 Covered Court in Talisay City, attended by women supporters and stakeholders from the different towns and cities of the province.
La Carlota City and Municipality of Ilog were the top winners (city and municipal category), followed by Kabankalan City and Hinobaan (2nd place), and Cadiz City and Isabela (3rd place).
The event was organized by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental in collaboration with the Provincial Council for Women led by its Chair, Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si, and Provincial Gender and Development Focal Point System (PGFPS) Action Officer and Executive Assistant to the Governor, Marie June Castro.
The awardees were recognized for their excellent contribution and initiative in establishing community gardens for food security; health and nutrition programs; and income generating activities for women, and for advocating the rights and welfare of women.
Gov. Lacson said that aside from acknowledging and honoring the Barangay VAW desks and officers for their selfless service and watchfulness, the event also showed the vigilance of the PCW to ensure women protection and well-being; and the availability of an avenue where women and their concerns can be addressed.
Aside from the Best Barangay Vaw Desks and Desk Officers, “Liso Kabuhi Ko” winners were also awarded at the program.“The pandemic has already stretched for almost two years and throughout this crisis, women proved their far-reaching and pivotal function in our society,” he added.
