WATCH: Gov. Bong Lacson led the distribution of educational assistance worth a total of P435,000 to Indigenous Peoples (IP) who are elementary and high school students in the towns of Toboso and cities of Sagay, Cadiz, and Escalante, this morning (September 2).The Negros Occidental Scholarship Program (NOSP) Division headed by Karen Dinsay facilitated the activity held at Brgy. Puey Covered Court in Sagay City.

The cash assistance is under the scholarship category, Educational Assistance for IP’s Basic Education (EAIBE), under the supervision of the NOSP.

Of the 58 grantees, 24 are from Sagay City; 25 from Cadiz City; eight from Toboso, and one from Escalante City; they received P7,500 each as allowance for the school year.

Local officials led by Sagay City Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr. welcomed Gov. Lacson.

Gov. Lacson said he appreciates the diligence of IP students in their studies; he also advised the parents of the IP students to continue to support their children’s education.

He also pledged to work with the Sagay City government to collaborate on a project that will provide potable water in the city’s upland communities.

Present at the activity were Sagay City councilors Christopher Maranon, Miller Serondo, Conception Javellana, Rodnel Delos Reyes, Felisa Lobaton, and Roldan Gamao, Brgy. Capt. Leofer Cobrado II, and Milina Jeruta of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) – Negros Occidental.
