NONESCOST Tops Nursing Licensure Exams in Negros Occidental

The Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology – (NONESCOST) School of Nursing ranked first among other nursing schools in Negros Occidental in the December 2011 Nursing Board Licensure Examination.

It has produced 61 board passers acquiring 57.01 percent rating against the national passing rate of 33.92 percent.

NONESCOST School of Nursing is located in Cadiz City and managed by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental.

Department of Agriculture Secretary Prospero Alcala lauded Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. during the opening program of the 79th Philippine Veterinary Medical Association Scientific Conference and Annual Convention held at L’Fisher Hotel, yesterday, citing the province’s achievement in the field of agriculture.

Alcala said that Negros Occidental is one of the few provinces in the Philippines with a Triple “A” standard slaughterhouse. He revealed that the national government is planning to put up a livestock semen laboratory in the province to help in the production of animals in the province.

Gov. Marañon proudly introduced to the secretary the fresh milk produced by the provincial government in its Provincial Livestock and Breeding Center.

He added that aside from the Agri-Pinoy Rice Achievers Award given to Negros Occidental, the province is now the leading poultry producer in Region VI and soon to be the “Lamb Capital of the Philippines”.

Alcala further commended the governor’s initiative in promoting college scholarships for agricultural courses and veterinary medicine among the Negrense youth. /Capitol News

Ombudsman Sets Caravan of Social Services in San Carlos City

The Office of the Ombudsman – Visayas, in cooperation with San Carlos Diocesan Social Action Foundation, Inc., will hold a Caravan of Government Social Services at the San Carlos City Auditorium, San Carlos City on Thursday, February 16.

The event will be participated in by different national government agencies (NGAs) and government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) in Region 6. They will set up booths that will officially open at 8 a.m. with San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo P. Valmayor, Jr. and Atty. Ma. Sonnette S. Daquita of Ombudsman – Region VI to lead in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

There will also be a ceremonial turnover of checks to beneficiaries of Cash for Work Program by Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional VI Director Minda B. Brigoli.

The activity is in partnership with the Local Government Unit of San Carlos City, the Philippine Minnesotan Medical Mission and San Carlos Medical Society.

The caravan, that started in 2008 in Western Visayas, is an initiative of the Office of the Ombudsman for the Visayas through Deputy Ombudsman Pelagio S. Apostol.

According to Caravan Project Coordinator Evangeline Nuñal, Associate Graft Investigating Officer of the Ombudsman’s Office, the activity is in line with the Ombudsman’s principle of reaching out to the people for them to be aware of the services offered by the different government agencies. /Capitol News

Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. turned over six units of motor engines to fishermen of the Municipality of Valladolid, representing their different associations, in a ceremony held at the Capitol, yesterday.

It is a livelihood program of the provincial government through the Provincial Environment Management Office headed by Atty. Alet Nuñez.

The beneficiaries, in return, are required to plant mangroves in designated coastal areas in the town.

Mayor Romel P. Yogore accompanied the project beneficiaries together with Municipal Agriculturist Giovanni Robles. The 6.0 horsepower motor engine costs P14,500 each.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Barangay Kapitolyo Solid Waste Management Program under PEMO also turned over 18 sets of waste containers for the segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials in the Provincial Jail in Bago City. /Capitol News
