The Provincial Veterinary Office held a Livestock and Poultry Seminar for the members of the United Negros Drivers Operators Center (UNDOC), Inc., yesterday, at the Governor’s Hall, Provincial Capitol, aimed at providing livelihood projects for their families.
Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. said that the program is part of the Negros First Development Agenda of the provincial government, to help alleviate the plight of the marginalized sector of our society and to reduce poverty in the countryside.
He added that at present, there are about 900 paravets in the province who are trained to perform artificial insemination on animals and the PVO is helping them develop their skills so that they will be well-equipped to take care of the animals.
The PVO headed by Dr. Renante Decena said that their office will provide the technical assistance to UNDOC members who will be given free range chickens and swine for their initial production.
Meanwhile, Executive Assistant to the Governor, Nonong Verdeflor, advised the participants to take good care of the projects given to them by the provincial government because this will help augment their monthly income.
The participants were given orientation on the Poultry Basic Management and Common Diseases Management and Prevention by Dr. Merie Ann Adlaon; Swine Basic Management by Dr. Cheryll Castañeda; and Swine and Poultry Contracts by PVO Coordinator Cathyrine Narez. /Capitol News
