Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. has expressed his support to the Pag-Aaral ng Bata para sa Kinabukasan (ABK3) Livelihood, Education, Advocacy, and Protection (LEAP) Against Exploitative Child Labor in Sugarcane, a project implemented by World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. headed by its Project Manager Bella Eustaquio, during the group’s courtesy visit at the Capitol, yesterday.
ABK 3 Project Director Daphne Culanag said that the project seeks to reduce exploitative child labor in sugarcane areas by implementing integrated strategies such as access to quality education; skills training for youth empowerment; improved livelihood for families; improved social protection services, among others.
The ABK3 LEAP will conduct a comprehensive baseline survey from January to August 2012 and the study will be conducted in 11 provinces with sugarcane plantations namely, Batangas, Camarines Sur, Iloilo, Capiz, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Leyte, Bukidnon, Davao Del Sur, and North Cotabato.
